Just you have said the word "disguise", similar to the word "hypocrisy" I’ve used in my former message referring the the American Society and its reflection in the cinema. Henry Armitage |

By the way, Golden Dame, I’m reading the book you sent to me: "The Philosophy of H.P. Lovecraft" , The Route to Horror, by Timo Airaksinen. It’s excellent, it’s a splendid, new light to understand many dark corners of the tales of H.P. Lovecraft and, moreover, it’s very easy to understand, written in an easy English, without erudite words. I recommend it to everybody. It was published in 1999 by Peter Lang Publishing, Inc. Thanks to this study I’m re-reading the tales the author mentions in the book. As a kind of "at this spot I’ve stopped my reading" signal, I have a wonderful postcard of New York and sent from NY. Thanks, millions and millions of thanks! I think the American society has changed very little, when stories like that have happened and go on happening.
I agree with you Mr Armitage I think that what really primes in the US is the PC, the "Politically Correct", which means -IMO- to disguise what someone really thinks/believes in what the general trend wants to hear. Abrazos a todos H-W-M-N-B-N |

Querido amigo Henry Armitage:
Of course, responsible audience need to be careful not to go along with whatever whim the film industry is presenting. They have their own goals with the very idea of what will sell well. However, I think that all kinds of stories deserve to be told, instead of sweeping under the carpet, with or without a happy ending, - especially ones that make a point on a sensitive topic: a place like Hollywood can trigger world-wide debate. Responsible audience, in turn, should know if they allow their attitudes be affected or not; if the example given is good or not so good. One film alone cannot do much, obviously it is a much larger question. The myth of dumb big blonds was not created overnight by means of one Marilyn movie, either. A cry from the dark depths of the abyss, wishes everyone joyful summer days :) Keziah Mason |

As far as the film Brokeback Mountain is concerned, I don’t doubt it can be a good example about the change in the Hollywood & America ideas about monorities. Anyway, the film is certainly touching, but the end was really sad and awful, so I think the American society has changed very little, when stories like that have happened and go on happening.

Estimados comrades Mr. Kharvatos and Dr. Henry
Re: discrimination, age, working life, sex, society, justice, equality... The Equality Act I mentioned earlier is of special importance in for working life; it also combats discrimination based on age. It’s a pan-European thing, made visible in public, for instance in company strategies, but common practice can sometimes be far from the ideology of the legal text. An American contemporary philosopher, Martha Nussbaum, in her book Sex and Social Justice is of the opinion that sex and sexuality are morally irrelevant distinctions that have been artificially enforced as sources of social hierarchy. She proposes functional freedoms, or central human capabilities as means to carry out social justice. She argues, for example, in support of the legalization of prostitution. In terms of civil obligations, she argues that military service should be equally compulsory to women as it is to men. I am not quite sure how the functional freedom or central human capabilities apply here. She explains that women (and men?) should have the freedom to choose whether to work in a factory or as a prostitute. If s/he chooses the latter job, safe working conditions and a regular pay must be secured by law. (in the context of prostiution she only spoke about women but I added men as a comment... ) In the way the military service functions nowadays, she argues that there is no reason why women could not handle the same military, or compensating civil service, exercises as men do. (As it is, women do have the freedom to choose to go to the army, if they want to. I personally must say, it’s not my cup of tea!) Nussbaum’s observation about Finnish society and social justice is that in a homogenous society as Finnish society is, the illusion of unity may turn against minorities: in Finland against the Sámi people in Lapland, or against immigrants by issuing strict immigrant laws, and closing the frontiers. (my comment: Finnish frontiers are by no means closed...) What Mr. Kharvatos pointed out, about one group imposing its values on another group, that it’s dangerous, I think so, too. However, I want to remind, as we know, some things are going for the better: in Spain, as in Finland, the winds of change are blowing and liberal laws are being issued in favour of minorities, including sexual minorities. They are now allowed rights and protection that were unheard of some time ago. Development in Spain has gained public attention even in the Finnish media. The earlier mentioned Hollywood has done a good deed by promoting the touching film Brokeback Mountain with an Oscar. Dear comrades, from the bottom of the bottomless abyss, I send you my thanks for all your comments and luscious discussions! Un abrazo tentacular de Keziah Mason Ps. European Championship in football tonight will go to Spain, I’m sure! With Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos, Fernando Torres on the field, there’s no losing! My guess is 2-0 for Spain! Yo, no. Henry Armitage Priorato de Exham In few words in the place where I work most of workers are women from higher to lower employs and men and women get the same salary in the same working level. |

Estimados cofrades:

Lovecraft
Lovecraft. |

Dear Logia-naries Keziah and Henry
My feeling is that if sometimes one can match a connection between uglyness and intelligence and beauty and stupidity is just because some times people open more easily the doors to those who are considered "beautyfull" (i put the terms in braquets because ugly and beauty are such subjective conceptions...) while for those who are considered as "ugly" things are not as easy, they have to work harder to access to the same oportunities and postions. In other words while the "beautifull" person reached a given position just for his physical apparence, because he/she pleased those who had the power to let him access there, the "ugly" one on the contrary would be at that same postion by its own merit It is a bite simplist but sometimes thazt is how can happen Now pls do, not missinterpret my words, I’m not saying that this is what usually happens and moreover, in a world where performance comes first and above everything else what I said above would scarcely happen Yet sometimes when two persons with almost same capacities compete to reaching a same position, the one who is "beautifull" to the eyes of the one who decides who will keep in that position, would possibly have better chances than the one considered as less "pretty" Just remember one episode of Doctor House, when docter Cameron asked him why did he chose her for his medical staff he said just because she was pretty. She felt offende at his words and said-wasn’t it for my merit?? I was among the best pupils of the my medicine school" -One of the best, but not the better" replied this bloody bastard Abrazos a todos H-W-M-N-B-N |

Dear Logia-Colleagues Keziah & Hee
I join to this discussion about beauty and intelligence. Are there any connection? The answer is yes, the same as ugliness and intelingence, beauty and stupidity. Anyway we could analyze the matter from the blondies’ point of view, her part in this story and many of them only care about mirrors and they exploit that role. I think a good example could be Marylin Monroe that Hee Hoo mentioned. She exploited that role of stupid, beautiful blondie, but she was very intelligent. I don’t believe in the equality of men and women, simply because I don’t believe in the equality of men and other men, the same about women. Greetings to you both and the rest of the Logia Family. Dear Dame Keziah Mason
I agree with you, absolutelly I myself refuted the myth in my previous post and as I explained, in my opinion Hollywood is the first one to blame for the myth of the beatifull but brainless blondes I can ensure you that no one in the Neologia family support nor agrees with such senseless agendas. We just comment how some people usually identifies a kind physical apparence to a given personality because we find it is a weird curiosity Un muy cordial saludo H-W-M-N-B-N |

Dear all:
Regarding the topic of beautiful women and blondes, ... this is a topic where I wish to make a few general comments: I think rating blonde females more beautiful and especially more stupid in comparison to females or males of other skin colour is degrading, chauvinist, racist, and definitely against equality of gender, and against human rights. http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html , Article 2. - often the look is usually associated with his temperament and perhaps its psychology: on everyone’s mind what would be the beautiful women and blondes are dumb (perhaps envy of women and ugly morenuchas) and muscular men as little smarter (which may act again envy from enclenques and alfeñiques). True, and oftentimes a Big Blonde is an object of juicy jokes. There are also those who willingly feed these concepts and turn it into a business. One can only hope that in this entertainment business the rule of equality is fullfilled in win-win situations :) We all know that the referred United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights is ideal and worth supporting but that it is ruthlessly violated all the time all over the world. Within our Family of Neologia we all respect human rights and gender equality and can see through the veils of Hollywood as well as other veils and woods! An eye for eye – magic for magic – let the outcome shew how well the lesson of the abyss had been learned!” |

H.P. Lovecraft (in Tryout June 1920; The Ancient Track, III Occasional Verse p. 135) Henry Armitage |

Estimado Amigo Henry
.... ¿Que le parece a usted? Un fuerta abrazo a todos H-W-M-N-B-N |
